Owing to Apple’s quarterly results, which once again exceeded the expectations of even optimists, equity markets managed to break a downward trend and return to the maximum levels of the current trading range. At the same time, we note the weakness of shares from the industrial sector following the publication of Caterpillar’s financial results. In line with our expectations, the slowdown in growth of Emerging Markets’ economies negatively affected the financial results of similar companies.
Another interesting event was the press conference with Chairman Ben Bernanke, which took place after the results of the FOMC meeting were announced. In general, players can find both joyful and disturbing moments in the Chairman of the Federal Reserve’s answers to reporters' questions. On the one hand, monetary policy continues to be extremely loose; on the other, the Federal Reserve is not ready to take measures to reduce unemployment at the cost of accelerating inflation.
For the Ukrainian stock market, this turn of events means the possibility of maintaining current levels. However, in order for the UX Index to remain above 1,400 points, it is necessary for the S&P 500 Index to consolidate the levels that have already been achieved (above the range of 1380-1385 points). This is the market’s third attempt to gain a foothold at these levels.
