On Tuesday, May 19, trades in USA have come to the end with mixed dynamics, as investors eyed renewed gains in yields and the dollar ahead of the Federal Reserve meeting minutes. The Federal Reserve Open Market Committee is expected to release the minutes of its April meeting on Wednesday, while several policymakers, including Janet Yellen, are scheduled to speak later in the week. April's housing starts totaled 1.135 million in April, nearly a seven-and-a-half year high and above the 1.020 million estimate. The beat follows weak readings of little above 900,000 in February and March. On the day’s result, index Dow Jones rose by 0.07%, S&P has lowered by 0.06%, Nasdaq has decreased by 0.17%.
European stock exchanges closed with growth of main indexes, as investors reacting to corporate earnings and comments on the timing of bond-buying by a member of the European Central Bank. Benoit Coeure, a member of the European Central Bank's Executive Board, hinted that the central bank could be ready to front-load its current quantitative easing program. On the day’s result, British FTSE rose by 0.38%, CAC 40 (France) grew by 2.09%, DAX (Germany) has increased by 2.23%.
June’s contractual price on Brent oil, decreased by $2.25 to $64.02 per barrel.
In Ukraine
Trades on the Ukrainian stock exchange opened on neutral territory, day passed with negative dynamics. Value of the UX index has declined by 1.44% to 1030.43. Share trades capacity on the application market was equal to UAH 2.9 million. Trades capacity on the derivatives market was equal to UAH 14.2 million. Total trades capacity for yesterday — UAH 27.9 million.
From ten shares of an index basket, eight retreated. Leaders of growth were shares of Krukivsky Carriage Works (+2.81%). Worse than market looked shares of Enakievo Metallurgical Plant (-6.97%).
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has supported the government bills to grant the Cabinet the right to suspend payments on external debt. Under the legislations, Ukraine may suspend payments on certain state-guaranteed external debt obligations.
Premarket
External background at the opening is neutral. Annual German factory gate prices remained weak in April. The index was 0.1% higher month-on-month. Economists had expected to see a slightly brighter reading of 0.2%, from 0.1% last time around.
The Asian indexes are showing mixed dynamics today. Nikkei rose by 0.85%, Hong Kong Hang Seng declining by 0.41%.
Futures on American indexes are slightly changing today from -0.01% to 0.06%.
Russian indexes as of 10:03 EET are decreasing — MICEX decreasing by 0.05%, RTS lowers by 0.43%.
Our expectations
We expect opening of the Ukrainian market on neutral territory.
In the U.S. will be published FOMC meeting minutes (21:00 EET).
